IPS were called by Aquatrol Pumping Services to assist with the installation of new isolation valves to the effluent main servicing Center Parcs UK & Ireland, at their village in Thetford, Suffolk.
Nestled in the heart of the Elveden Forest, this 400-acre site hosts over 4,000 guests a day. Shutting down the effluent system simply wasn’t an option. However, the presence of a faulty gate valve meant that flow could not be isolated to allow work to take place. In addition, at 3 miles long, the rising main couldn’t be drained as the air valves also weren’t working — potentially forcing a temporary site closure and disappointing thousands of guests!
That’s where IPS stepped in with a fast and cost-effective solution.
The Challenge
- A faulty gate valve and non-return valve needed replacing
- Flow could not be isolated using conventional methods
- Draining the main wasn’t viable due to scale and impact
- System needed to remain operational with minimal disruption

Having previously worked with members of the maintenance team, IPS were brought in for our trusted expertise in pipefreezing Suffolk. We calculated the freeze and thaw timelines required to safely isolate the live 6” effluent main.
A coordinated plan was put in place:
- A fleet of tankers was mobilised to pump off and temporarily store effluent continually flowing into the pumping station during the works
- IPS technicians conducted a precision pipefreeze on the 6” cast iron main
- New isolation valves and a non-return valve were installed safely and efficiently
