Hot Tapping at Canary Wharf
IPS were recently at Canary Wharf, carrying out high pressure hot tapping for Bancroft, to enable new branch connections.
Bancroft have been working at Canary Wharf on a major refurbishment in preparation for the relocation of the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
EBRD are to occupy the top 12 of this 24-storey building, which itself was only built in 2019. The refurbishment is aimed to provide one of the most environmentally advanced and efficient offices in the UK.
IPS were called out to assist with the creation of new branch lines by hot tapping 2 x 125mm valves onto 150mm and 2 x 50mm valves onto 80mm high pressure LTHW and CHW systems.
Working at high level on the 12th floor plant room, the hardest part was lifting the valves, weighing in at 64 kilos each, into position. The valves work to PN40 pressure, in comparison to our normal PN16.
All work, including pressure testing, was completed in one day.
