The project was to facilitate the replacement of chiller units situated on the ground floor without draining down the building.
By freezing the 400mm pipework, locally at ground floor level, we were able to save our client a great deal of draining down, refilling and venting time to put the cooling system back into service.
This project took place over night shifts and held frozen during day shifts over 48 hour periods to allow sufficient time for the project to be successfully carried out. By the use of nitrogen tankers, on a continuous replacement basis and the use of vacuum insulated hoses directly fed into the pipefreezing jackets, the works were carried out in an efficient, safe manner which enabled the not inconsiderable pipework modifications to be carried out in order to put the new chiller units into service within the allowed shut down periods.
