IPS pipe freezing at Sussex University

With over 14,000 registered students the University of Sussex takes its duty of care very seriously.

During a scheduled maintenance inspection it became apparent that the valves on an essential fire hydrant located near the John Clifford West building were inoperative.

In order to replace the hydrant without draining the whole system the best solution was to temporarily isolate the flow and IPS were called on to freeze the 100mm case iron fire main.

Working at a depth of 800mm the job was relatively straight-forward and after the valves and hydrant were replaced IPS carried out full pressure tetsing of the system.
